At 62, Gautam Adani is India’s second richest man, following Mukesh Ambani, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index. 

Adani began his entrepreneurial journey in 1978 after dropping out of school at 16. 

He initially worked in diamond sorting before returning to Gujarat. 

Adani started with a commodity trading company with his brothers and expanded into ports, airports, coal, and power. 

Gautam Adani is the Founder and Chairman of the Adani Group, while his brother Rajesh Adani serves as the Managing Director of Adani Enterprises. 

Gautam Adani plans to retire at age 70, passing the leadership of the business to the next generation. 

Four successors have been named: Gautam Adani’s sons Karan and Jeet, and their cousins Pranav and Sagar Adani. 

Pranav Adani, the eldest successor, joined the business in 1999 and now oversees most of the Adani Group’s consumer businesses.
